In Conversation with Jeremy Grier and Kennedi Carter // institute of black art renewal
Image for Image is a conversational exploration of photographic practice, image-making, and the stories that exist beyond the frame.
Photographers Jeremy Grier and Kennedi Carter begin by introducing themselves, their respective practices, and the ideas that inform their work. From there, the conversation unfolds through a mutual exchange of photographs.
Each photographer selects five images from the other's body of work that they feel particularly drawn to.
Moving image by image, they discuss what initially attracted them to each photograph, the visual and conceptual elements they admire, and the questions the work raises. The photographer responsible for the image is then invited to share the story behind its making, offering insight into their intentions, creative decisions, process, and the circumstances surrounding the photograph.
The exchange encourages a dialogue between the intention of the artist and the interpretation of the viewer, exploring how an image can take on meanings beyond those originally imagined by its maker.
